Sustainability for Suppliers

Managing Suppliers in a Responsible Manner

Over 80% of the carbon output of the production process of wind turbines is now made up of raw materials. With our sustainability quality in all we do plan, we aim to minimize the amount of carbon discharge from our supply network by 45% per MWh produced by 2030 and to manufacture zero-waste wind turbines by 2040. The success of these objectives depends on the cooperation of our business partners. As a result, we started working with 27 key suppliers, accounting for 30% of our material consumption, in order to achieve significant increases in carbon output and circularity.

Our initial partnership with these 27 providers is just the beginning, and we plan to steadily expand the scope of our collaborations. It is expected that the selected strategic suppliers will agree to supplying Ventus3 with 100% renewable electricity, set reduction targets for scope 1 and 2 carbon discharge, and assess industrial waste. Scope 3 emissions reduction targets must be established by suppliers by 2022.

Managing Supply Chain in an Ethical Manner

At Ventus3, we believe in the importance of sustainable supply chain management. We seek to enhance our shared effectiveness through a rigorous qualification and support program, sustainability reviews, and global alliances. All suppliers must adhere to the Ventus3 Supplier Code of Conduct, which is an essential aspect of our Purchase Agreements.

Third-party due diligence screens for issues like company ethics and penalties help us reduce supplier risk. As of 2020, we’ve evaluated 2989 potential suppliers, giving us the information, we need to make better business decisions, implement risk mitigation plans, and reduce our overall exposure to risk.

Before allowing new suppliers into the Ventus3 supply chain, we check to make sure they are in accordance with our policies. Our thorough due diligence ensures that this is the case. In addition to standard surveys, we also conduct in-depth onsite evaluations. The quality and sustainability of our new suppliers will be evaluated in 2020 through 39 onsite evaluations around the world. Thirty-five of these were granted, with no rejections, while the remaining four are awaiting approval.

Supplier onboarding is followed by risk-based due diligence activities. Supplier evaluations, performance review sessions, and third-party sustainability audits are just a few examples of these activities. The goal of our sustainability audits is to make certain that our suppliers are adhering to all applicable laws, our Code of Conduct, and our high standards for product and service quality. We take action when so-called “red flags” are spotted, which indicate that suppliers are underperforming of our criteria.

This investment in an external data management option will allow us to track the origins of conflict minerals across our supply chain, ensuring that our suppliers do not use materials obtained from conflict-affected areas that enable or fuel the violence in those regions. Currently, we’re working with the results of this process.
